Poached beers

July 18th, 2008

An innovative way to recruit from our friends at Conchango. Hijack an oppositions beer fridge and give people something to think about over the weekend. (Incidentally, this was not me.)

Designers Toolbox of Tricks

Designers Toolbox - a wonderful resource of template and website tools. I found the form resource particularly useful which provides examples of form elements as they appear in the main browsers on different platforms.

Flip, tumble and save the world

Flip and Tumble

Plastic bags are evil! We all know it, we just have to stop making them, using them and remember to take a couple of bags with us when we go shopping. Now its even easier with this little creation I came across a while back. The Flip and Tumble bag packs down into a tiny ball using it’s own built-in pocket which makes it easy to pop into your coat, handbag or backpack.

I ordered three bags from the online shop and have been using them on a regular basis over the last few weeks. They hold more than the average carrier bag and often get a “that’s a good idea” comment - we both throughly recommend them. They come in several colours, cost $12 (plus delivery) and you can order them here.

Richard Rogers at the Design Museum

June 26th, 2008

We went to see the latest Design Museum exhibitions at the weekend. The first 1000sqm floor is currently home to a fantastic exhibition by Richard Rogers Architects. The space is full of wonderful architectural models from all areas of architectural consideration. Models include the Pompidou, Millennium Dome, Milan Airport and Zip-Up house to name just a few.

There’s also some great typography signs hanging from the ceiling - the exhibition is on until 25th August - then it moves to Barcelona and Madrid in 2009.

Signs

Further up the stairs on the top floor, there is also some really great product design from Industrial Facility. More pictures found here.

Apple’s new Sonic Ad

June 10th, 2008

Logan iTunes Ad

The new Ad from Logan, the folks who have been working with Apple creating all the latest (and in my opinion, greatest) vibrant iTunes/iPod adverts over the last year. The Ad also features one of my favourite bands Coldplay and a song off their new Viva la Vida album, which is out on Thursday.

Watch the AD in HD here. I love it!

Code links (take a picture of this)

Quick response code

After recently reading this post on CR Blog and coincidently finding a QR reader application on my iPhone it reminded me to explore the wonderful world of QR codes and their possibilities.

QR (Quick response) codes are the modern day version of barcodes but instead of using a traditional reader you’d find at Sainsbury, you use a mobile phone camera which sometimes has software built-in or you download an app to read the codes. The QR codes generally contain a ‘machine’ readable URL that automatically sends the user off to your website. This is especially useful if your domain name and specific page is long and unfriendly for typing out or writing down - one snap on your camera and you’re away.

2dcode.co.uk is a blog that helps you screw up your code as the code itself allows for 30% deterioration while still remaining readable.

Create your own QR code over at Kaywa.
